WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – Illinois State Police say snow and slick roads may be to blame for a fatal crash on Interstate 39 near El Paso.

Police said Sharon Goldasich, 71, of McNabb was traveling northbound on I-39 just after 8 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her SUV while crossing the overpass of Route 24 in Woodford County.

The SUV was then hit by a semi. Both vehicles were forced off the road and down an embankment.

Goldasich was pronounced dead at the scene. Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman said she was on her way to visit family and friends in Putnam County at the time of the accident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the semi, Abidir Hashi of Minneapolis, was not injured.
