EAST PEORIA, Ill -- East Peoria is gearing up for one of the biggest events of the year: the Festival of Lights parade and FOLEPI's Winter Wonderland. This year, there are some big changes.
First, the parade has been moved up a week. It will be this Saturday evening (11/17) starting at 5:45 p.m.
The parade will kick off at the intersection of East Washington and Dolans Lane and end with the floats parking along Springfield Road between Taylor and Main Streets.
Also new this year, the FOLPEI Winter Wonderland will open at 5 o'clock on Thanksgiving day and stay open through December 31.
Organizers also say they have worked all year switching thousands of bulbs to LED lights.
"It costs less because they use less electricity, they're more environmentally friendly. There is just no comparison in the brilliance between and LED light and an incandescent bulb," said Jill Peterson, the City of East Peoria Public Relations coordinator.
More new events this year include an ornament hunt with a prize package work $1,300 and lunch with Santa.
Organizers say the events not only bring a lot of business, it also brings joy to people of all ages.
"This is probably the brightest spot in the Midwest in the end of November and December. People tell us that they've just not seen anything like this before and they really should come and check it out, it's just amazing," said Peterson.
