PEORIA Ill -- As many continue to enjoy your holiday festivities, local firefighters want to make sure you do it safely.

But in the event something goes wrong, crews are better prepared to respond.

Firefighters at Peoria's Central Station performed training drills.

During the scenario, firefighters had to crawl through ropes while following their water hose line.

Battalion Chief Jerry Malone said training is very important, and Christmas day is no exception.

"This is just another typical training scenario we do everyday on the Peoria fire department. Other stations throughout the city are probably doing about the same thing. You know working on some type of evolution. Some type of training that we go through everyday," said Malone.

Captain Clint Kuhlman said many of the younger firefighters will switch shifts with those who have families during the holidays.
