Firefighters battle structure fire in Morton

MORTON, Ill. --
Update: Third shift employees of Bradley Services Incorporated have been asked not to report to work Tuesday evening. Call BSI at 309 263-8914 for updates.
At 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night, BSI salaried employees should meet at the Morton Industries facility at 231 Detroit St., Morton.
All first shift BSI employees should meet at the K of C Hall, 616 W. David St., Morton (behind the Post Office) at 7:00 a.m., Wednesday.

Authorities in Tazewell County battled flames and smoke at the Bradley Services Incorporated company Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 935 Detroit Avenue shortly before 9 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found the building was fully engulfed in flames.

General Manager James Knepp of BSI said the fire started around 8:30 in a welding department. He believes the fire could have been electrical in nature.

Nearly 170 employees were inside when the fire started and according to the Central Illinois Chapter of the Red Cross, there are approximately 125 first responders on the scene.

Morton firefighters are being assisted by departments from Tremont, East Peoria, Creve Coeur, Washington, Pekin, and North Pekin.

Bradley Services Incorporated makes parts for Caterpillar and Komatsu. It is located near the CEFCU building in Morton.
