PEORIA, Ill. -- One Peoria first district city council candidate plans to challenge the residency of her opponent.
Denise Moore says she believes that Gary Sandberg may have presented the election commission with false information regarding his residency.
Earlier this week, Gary Sandberg announced that he is running for the first district city council seat being vacated by current member Clyde Gulley.
Sandberg, who also serves as an at-large member for the city council, has lived in the second district on Bigelow street.
When he filed petitions on Monday, Sandberg listed his address as 1213 South West Adams, which is in the first district.
Moore says she will file a challenge to Sandberg's residency with the Peoria elections commission next week.
"My objection centers on that the people of the first district are represented well. As you can see by my meeting here we are talking about issues. We aren't talking about people and personalities. We're talking about issues, we're talking about people who have spent their lives on the first district. And they need someone to represent them that is going to be around," said Moore.
Gary Sandberg did not respond to our e-mail request for comment.
The deadline for challenging residency requirements is Monday, December 3.
Randall Emert is also a candidate for the first district city council race.
The primary will be held in February and the election is in April.
