SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Public Health confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus in the state on Tuesday.
The McHenry County Health Department reported a woman in her 50’s became ill earlier this month. She is the first confirmed human case in Illinois in 2013.
Locally, health departments have reported dead birds and batches of mosquitoes that tested positive for the disease.
The IDPH recommends reducing your exposure to mosquitoes when outdoor to prevent the illness.
