NORMAL, Ill -- The Normal Town Council has much to discuss before deciding whether or not to allow mobile food vending.

Tonight staff recommended the council see more research on the issue.

Staff suggests there could be food carts allowed with restrictions to private property.

Some expressed concern that a lack of property tax for mobile vendors would give an unfair advantage over restaurants.

"There's certainly a desire to look out for the best interests of our existing business population, but we don't want to put ourselves in the position where we're stifling new business," Says Mayor Chris Koos. " And I can see there's a fine line to walk there."

Mayor Koos does not expect action on the issue any time soon.

Council is planning to hear from the public before moving forward.
