EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Police have arrested former East Peoria High School football coach and math teacher Doug Martin for the misappropriation of school funds.

Martin, 35, was dismissed from his position at the high school in April after an audit of school/athletic funds found discrepancies with the football accounts.

A complaint accused Martin of mishandling money from community donations, fundraisers and school organized football camps over the last several years.

At the time of Martin’s arrest, the amount of misappropriated funds was estimated at more than $33,000. An investigating is ongoing.

Martin is currently being held in the Tazewell County Jail.

Martin served as head football coach at East Peoria High School for 7 years. He also coached boys basketball and track.
