CHICAGO, Ill. -- Former Governor George Ryan is a step closer to a possible new trial.
Friday, Ryan's attorneys argued, before the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals, that his conviction on mail fraud counts should be overturned because they were based on flawed jury instructions.
The 78-year-old Ryan is nearing the end of a 6 and half -year sentence.
He is due to be released from a federal prison in mid-20-13.
