NORMAL, Ill -- A former mayor was honored today in Normal.

The Carol A. Reitan Conference Center, which is adjacent to the town's Marriott hotel, was dedicated at a ceremony on Sunday.

Reitan served as normal mayor from 1972 to 1976, as well as a longtime community organizer.

Current mayor Chris Koos unveiled the placque that will bear her name.

Reitan was quick to thank everyone who had worked with her over the years. She said, "I am a tandem horse, I have to work with somebody, I liked to be harnessed him with others who will pull together with me. This award really should go to all of you."

The dedication ceremony also had video messages from many who worked with Reitan, including United States Senator Dick Durbin.
