NEWARK, NJ. -- A former Bishop of the Peoria Diocese is firing back at his critics and the media in a letter to clergy, released over the weekend.

Archbishop John Myers was responding to stories about the Peoria Diocese's settlement of a sexual abuse civil suit.

Now the Newark, New Jersey Archbishop, Myers says that the media "provided deceitful and misleading information about situations in the Diocese of Peoria."

In a 2010 deposition released last week, Myers said he didn't know about the allegations against the priest.

In his letter, Myers says that "children should never be at risk" and that anyone who claims he doesn't work to protect children is "simply evil, wrong, and immoral."
