A former Peoria County Board member has been arrested in Florida on solicitation of prostitution charges.

Merle Widmer was arrested in an undercover operation targeting prostitution in the North Tamiami Trail neighborhood.

Widmer served on the Peoria County Board for ten years. He retired three years ago.

Earlier this summer, Widmer reported to Peoria Police that thousands of dollars in jewelry belong to his wife had been taken from his home and he named a dancer from Club Cabaret whom he had befriended as a possible suspect.
