SAN JOSE, Ill. -- Former San Jose, Illinois city treasurer, Melanie Blair, has repaid $14,000 she took from the city coffers, and in doing so, has stayed out of jail.
Blair pleaded guilty to stealing the money as part of a plea agreement with the Mason County State's Attorney.
She had reportedly transferred the money from the city treasurer's accounts to those of her family while working at her full-time job at a local bank. State Police said the thefts began in 2009 and went on until October of last year.
Blair was ordered to pay fines and court costs and serve a term of probation.
