BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- More than a hundred golfers took a swing at ending childhood cancer Monday at the 34th Annual Men's St. Jude Golf Classic.
The team competition is one of central Illinois' longest-running events benefiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
In attendance was very special guest and former St. Jude patient Bryce Reichert. At the age of two, Bryce was diagnosed with leukemia and given just hours to live, he is now 9 years old.
"My family were really like sad because they thought I was going to die but St. Jude helped me really good and they saved my life," said Bryce.
This year's event brought in $95,000. That is up $3,000 from last year but shy of the $100,000 goal set by organizers.
The 29th annual Women's Golf Classic will be held July 15 at Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington.
