CHICAGO, Ill. -- The former head of cancer research at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is suing his former boss and two former colleagues.

Dr. Jasti Rao filed a civil suit in federal court in Chicago more than a month ago. This week, summons were issued against school of medicine's Dean, Dr. Sarah Rausch, and two others.

In his lawsuit, Dr. Rao, a well known cancer researcher, said he was forced to resign from his $700,000 a year job after "anonymous allegations" were made to the University.

The lawsuit states an illegally-obtained recording of Dr. Rao speaking to colleagues was misinterpreted by University officials.

Dr. Rao is asking for both compensatory and punitive damages.
