The final District 150 meeting of the school year included some big news for Peoria schools and Superintendent Doctor Grenita Lathan.

Monday night the board approved a four year extension on Doctor Lathan's contract ending June 30th of 2016.

The contract includes a $5,000 raise, giving her an annual salary of $203,000.

The new contract essentially resets Dr. Lathan's current contract.

"We want to send a signal to other school districts that we're not going to let her go," says school board President Linda Butler. "So we're starting with this contract early to say we want to keep her on."

"I'll just continue to work," Lathan says. "As I think you heard me say earlier tonight, give me an opportunity to do my job. Meet me half-way, but don't use hate to criticize. If you're going to criticize be constructive about it, but don't use hate to do that."

Also approved at the meeting is an additional $5,000 performance bonus for Lathan.

Doctor Lathan may receive another $5,000 next fall based on student achievement scores.
