BLOOMINGTON, Ill -- A 14-year-old McLean County boy pleaded "guilty but mentally ill" on Monday in connection with a shooting incident at Normal Community High School last September.
The guilty plea came in McLean County Juvenile Court where the boy was to go on trial.
The 14-year-old NCHS student pleaded guilty to a variety of charges including armed violence and unlawful use of weapons.
He detained the classroom full of students, pointing the gun at several of them without firing before a struggle with teacher Derrick Schonauer. The gun discharged during that struggle.
He is to be sentenced January 22.
