PEORIA, Ill -- As the Central Illinois Auto Show rolls into town this weekend, officials are hoping to get the nation's blood supply pumping.
All this week, the American Red Cross is teaming up with the Peoria Metro Car Dealers Association for the 2nd annual Central Illinois Auto Show blood drive.
Those who make a blood or platelet donation between now and April 6th, 2013 will receive one free ticket to this weekend's show.
Officials say while the blood supply is currently sufficient, the need is still strong.
"The harsh winter weather we saw, really in February, did cause a shortfall of more than 16,000 blood and platelet donations across the country," said Ben Corey, American Red Cross. "So while the blood supply is current sufficient this is a good opportunity for eligible donors to make an appointment and help us rebuild the blood supply. So we can continue to meet the needs of patients."
To schedule an appointment call 1-800-red-cross or just visit the Peoria Blood Donation Center.
You can also donate blood at at the Central Illinois Auto Show Sunday from 11am to 4pm in the Peoria Civic Center Verizon Cafe.
