PEORIA, Ill. -- A family is safe after a fire damaged much of their home Friday afternoon.
Officials with the Peoria Fire Department say they were called to a house fire just after noon at 631 Spitznagle in Peoria.
When they arrived, they found the occupant, Preston Williams, and two children had safely escaped the home.
Firefighters quickly made entry into the house and knocked down the fire.
The fire was mostly contained to the living room and the front of the house but there is smoke damage throughout.
The American Red Cross says it is providing for the family's emergency disaster-related needs.
Authorities have determined the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and caused $30,000 in damges.
The home is owned by Jim Monroe.
