DETROIT, Mich. -- General Motors is recalling more than 425,000 vehicles because of a problem with the gear shift.
That issue prompted GM to recall 2008 through 2010 Chevrolet Malibus and Pontiac G6 vehicles, along with certain 2007 through 2010 Saturn Auras.
The affected models have four speed automatic transmissions.
The tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate and if that happens, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match.
So, even if the driver puts the car in park, it may not really be there.
GM will notify affected owners and dealers will fix the problem.
