GALESBURG, Ill. -- A Galesburg martial arts group needs your help to kick-start a drug-free life for area youth.

Master instructor Ed Sanchez with Kuk Sool Won is hosting its 11th annual "Break a Board for DARE" event.

Saturday's show will feature black belt demonstrations, a women's self defense demo and a martial arts weapon performance.

The money raised will fund supplies and scholarships for the DARE program.

"Martial arts is about no drugs. Martial arts is about building self-esteem," Sanchez said. "If you look at the meaning of Samurai it means serve your community. And this is what these kids do...They protect our community and raise funds to help them now they are the true champions."

Sanchez says about 100 participants, ages 3 to 63 will fill the gym at Carl Sandburg College. The event is Saturday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.
