Libby Allison returns home to central Illinois to join WEEK’s News 25 this April. She can be seen anchoring weeknights on News at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. starting Monday, April 28. Allison will co-anchor with 40 year veteran Tom McIntyre.
“To find someone with the depth of knowledge and experience in local news that Libby has is a tremendous asset”, said Mark DeSantis, President/General Manager of WEEK/WHOI/WAOE-TV. “That she is also from here and wants to come home to work in Central Illinois is a true blessing for the viewers WEEK serves. Libby is a great addition to our Home Team of local news professionals.”
Libby Allison was born and raised in Galesburg. She is a graduate of Galesburg High School. Coming from a family deeply involved in local sports (currently her father is a football coach at Knox College), Libby traveled throughout central Illinois for Silver Streak teams while in high school. Allison went on to study at Western Illinois University in Macomb, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcasting and Communication.
Allison has over ten years of experience as a television anchor, producer and reporter. Since 2009, Libby has been a primary evening news anchor at WVIR-TV (NBC) in Charlottesville, Va. Prior to that, she anchored news in the Quad Cities for five years. As a reporter, Allison has interviewed the likes of NFL Hall of Famer Gayle Sayers, Meet the Press host David Gregory, former RNC Chair Michael Steele, and Husain Haqqani, the former Pakistan Ambassador to the U.S.
Greg Schieferstein, News Director for WEEK and WHOI says, “Libby’s outstanding ability and experience caught our attention. Her knowledge and connection with Central Illinois make her the perfect fit.”
“This is home to me,” said Allison. “My family has deep roots in central Illinois, and it was important for me to be with them. I am excited to make my way back to the Midwest and now join the News 25 Home Team family.”
Libby Allison shares her life with her husband Rob, their son Tucker and their dog Izzy. She loves reading, cooking, running and is a huge Chicago Bears and Cubs fan (Libby apologizes to all Cards and White Sox fans!).
