EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Gas prices from coast to coast have gone up every day for more than a month.
Here locally, gas prices have risen more than 13 cents in the past week, averaging $3.77 a gallon. That is up more than 50 cents in Peoria compared to a month ago.
It is hitting every commuter's pocketbook hard.
Charlie Waugh commutes 65 miles to work each way. He said, "I fill up about 2.5 times a week, so with the gas prices I have to watch is East Peoria cheaper than Lincoln, is Lincoln cheaper than Springfield. I gotta play the game."
"Of course the price of gas is factored into everything else. It is not going to help the economy at all," said Lewis Riggenbach, a Tremont Resident.
Experts said several factors are to blame. Crude oil prices have jumped 10 percent in the last two months. OPEC has cut production by about a million barrels a day. Finally, refineries are shutting down for maintenance as they prepare to switch to a summer blend.
