DUNLAP, Ill. -- You may want to think twice before you take a bite out of your Halloween candy.
Instead of eating the candy, you could get paid for it.
Maple Shade Dental Group will be holding a Halloween Buyback the day after Halloween.
For every pound of unopened candy you bring in, Maple Shade will give you one dollar, plus other prizes.
All donated candy will then be sent to US troops in Iraq through Operation Santa.
Dr. Erin Shanahan, the Maple Shade Dental Director, says the buyback also promotes good health.
"It's not one particular holiday," said Dr. Shanahan. "It's all the holidays these days. You know, there's a 2% increase in global sugar consumption, and it can lead to obesity. It can lead to hyperactivity, so there are a lot of reasons to use moderation."
The Halloween candy buyback will take place on Thursday, November 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at all three Maple Shade dental locations in Dunlap and East Peoria.
