PEORIA, Ill. -- The girlfriend of Peoria's latest homicide victim was herself a victim of a residential burglary on Sunday.
Police responded to the residence of Brooklyn Irby, 32, in the 1400 block of NE Monroe on Sunday afternoon.
Irby told authorities that she did not feel safe in her home and left for the night on Saturday. When she returned Sunday, her back window had been broken and various items were stolen.
Police said that Irby had moved a refrigerator in front of her back door to prevent someone from entering the home. It had been moved by the suspects during the robbery.
Irby told police that she was having a dispute with the family of her deceased boyfriend, Carnell Ashford, over his property.
Ashford was killed early Friday morning during a shooting that left two other men injured. The shooting also took place on the 1400 block of Monroe. Ashford's body was found a block away on the 1400 block of NE Perry.
Ashford was living with Irby at the time of his death.
There are no known suspects.
