2008 Olympic gold Medalist Bryan Clay was in Peoria speaking to the congregation at Northwoods Community Church. The Olympian who championed the decathlon was invited to share his story of perseverance.

Through interviews with the church's pastor, Clay shared his story of a troubled past, which he overcame to attain his gold medal. Clay says his message from God was to strive to be his best.

"That's what we want to do. We want to give people hope. We want to inspire them," says the Medalist. " We want to let them know that there's more out there than just a gold medal, or just what they're going through at that specific moment. And if we can do that, I think there are a lot of people out there that are going to find that helpful. "

After the service, Clay signed copies of his book, Redemption. He says he is always happy to be invited to share his message.
