PEORIA, Ill. -- The government shutdown is having an effect locally.

In Peoria, 225 members of the 182 Airlift Wing of the Illinois Air National Guard have been furloughed.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Steve Thomas, only essential staff are to report. He said approximately 90 active duty personnel are on the base.

Lt. Colonel Thomas said they are also asking for exemptions for 80 of those furloughed so that they can complete their missions and training.
