PEORIA, Ill. -- A downtown Peoria hotel is pulling out all the stops for its New Year's Eve festivities.
It's crunch time for the culinary staff inside the Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette Hotel. The annual New Year's Eve party returns after a one year absence.
"We're very excited to bring the tradition back and there is so much history behind the Pere Marquette Hotel. I think we've done a really great job of blending the historic with the new and the staff and I are thrilled to have our first inaugural New Year's Eve Party," said Marriott General Manager Laura Lojas
In June the Pere Marquette reopened after being closed a year and a half for renovations. Lojas says for many guests the New Year's Eve party will be their first visit back since the renovations.
Huge crystal chandeliers hang from the foyer ceilings and ballrooms that are now decorated with modern furnishings in the 14 story hotel.
New Year's Eve is the biggest guest night booking for many hotels. But not all of them in downtown Peoria will reap the economic benefits."
Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, like the Pere Marquette, is getting a new look. The hotel closed in October to begin renovations which are currently underway.
"We've actually had several phone calls asking if we're having a New Year's Eve Party or if we have a rate for New Year's eve. So typically we're pretty full on New Year's eve It's a big disappointment for all of us," said Four Points by Sheraton Sales and Marketing Manager Julie Bushell
Even though their doors are closed during the biggest party celebration Bushell says they are getting help.
Their neighbor, the Marriott Pere Marquette is picking up the slack.
