CANTON, Ill. -- Canton Police are asking for the public's help in an investigation of vandalism at a local cemetery.

Police said between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday some 26 headstones were damaged at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Family members are being contacted, and many of the headstones will be reset.

Police said there are no suspects at this time, but the vandals will face serious charges.

"If we can find the people that have done this there is pending felony charges. This is a damage estimate of well over $10,000 and some of the headstones that are over 100 years old are irreplaceable," said Canton Police Lieutenant Gerald Foreman.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is urged to call Crimestoppers at 647-3636.
