CHICAGO, Ill. – We are seeing more remarkable evidence of just how cold this record setting winter has been.

NASA snapped this picture of the Great lakes last week. More than 80-percent of the five lakes are covered in ice.

Earlier this month, ice cover on the Great Lakes hit 88-percent for the first time since 1994.

Typically, at its peak, ice cover is around 50-percent and NASA said it rarely passes 80-percent.
