BARTONVILLE, Ill. -- Two Limestone High School Students are in police custody in connection with the discovery of a handgun in the school around noon on Tuesday.

According to Chief Brian Fengel, a resource officer gained information of a possible gun in the school and, with the help of students, the officer located the unloaded weapon.

The school followed emergency lock-down procedures and officials say no one was ever in danger.

A second male student, aged 15, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property, possession of stolen property, and possession and storage of a fire arm.

The two students are being held at the Peoria Juvenile Detention Center.

Peoria Police are assisting in the investigation, because it is believed that the stolen weapon was taken during a recent burglary within Peoria.
