PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria police are wrapping up a busy weekend dealing with an usual amount of gun violence.
Saturday alone racked up nearly a dozen incidents, the first of which sent one Peoria man to jail and another man to the hospital.
Peoria police were called to 2104 North Peoria Avenue around 8 o'clock Saturday morning.
That's where they found 31-year-old John Williams, Jr. with a gunshot wound in his chest.
Police say 21-year-old Darris Miller allegedly shot Williams less than a block away, at 310 East Frye.
Officers arrested Miller at gunpoint after he fled the scene.
He is being charged with aggravated, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Investigators say Miller and Williams date the same female, which led to a dispute and the single shot fired.
Authorities say Williams was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Miller is being held without bond and is due in court Monday.
