BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The McLean County Health Department is reaching out to local landlords and tenants to encourage them to go smoke-free.
As part of the We Choose Health Initiative, encourages landlords and tenants to establish smoke-free policies to limit exposure to secondhand smoke.
Secondhand smoke can be a major concern for residents of multi-unit housing facilities, because smoke migrates from other units and travels through doorways, electrical lines, plumbing pipes and ventilation systems.
Smoke-free policies are voluntary and at the discretion of property owners. It is important to note that the policy would not prevent someone who smokes from living in a smoke-free facility.
