Area high school students are getting an up close look at the field of materials engineering.

Bradley University is hosting the week-long Materials Engineering Camp.

30 junior and senior high school students will tour various Caterpillar facilities, and conduct projects such as casting metal figurines with molten metal.

Riverwoods High School Junior Mitchell Frager says he is convinced that material engineering is a good career choice for him after only one day at the camp.

"Yeah, it definitely showed my how interesting engineering can be and how far i can go in the field. And it allows me to see more specifically what I want to go into," said Frager.

Marv McKimpson, the co-chair of the camp, said "We are more interested in giving students an understanding of the kinds of things that they might encounter in the field of materials engineering."

The annual camp is funded by the A-S-M Materials Education Foundation and local industries.
