WASHINGTON, Ill -- Two neighbors are taking the 'Griswold' approach to Christmas.
Andy Schmidgall and Dan Richardson, who call themselves Clark and Eddie, are bringing the 'Christmas Vacation' holiday spirit to Washington, Illinois.
They say the competition started three years ago and has grown ever since.
"I just said we'll wait till after Christmas get lights on sale and then my wife saw he put lights up and she said, 'you can't let him out do you' so that started basically the light arms race that we're living in now," said Richardson.
Schmidgall said, "Everybody seems to love it. The streets are always busy; usually there is 4 or 5 cars sitting out here at any time."
Schmidgall said it took him three days to string all his lights. Across the street, Richardson says he has 100 hours in just the sequencing of music and lights.
They say all the lights are LED and very energy efficient.
Both are already planning how they will make next year bigger and brighter.
