PEORIA, Ill. -- For the first time runners are taking part of Goodwill's annual Veteran's Stand down event.

Goodwill hosted the fifth annual event Saturday morning at Dozer Park.

This year, organizers added the Forward march run. More than 100 runners raced to benefit those who have served.

However, the main focus of the event is to aid homeless veterans, helping them with basic services like winter clothing and flu shots.

"It makes me feel great that the community is supporting us," said Anthony Owens, US Navy Submariner. "Because in actuality that's some of the things that we did while we were serving over in foreign countries. We were serving not only our community but the United States as a whole."

More than 150 veterans attended.
