PEORIA, Ill. -- The makers of Wonder Bread, Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes says it will have to close its doors permanently if striking workers don't return to work by Thursday.
Officials with Hostess Brands Inc. say they will ask a U.S. bankruptcy judge in White Plains, New York for permission to liquidate the entire company unless enough of its striking employees return to work by the end of the day Thursday.
Hostess which has about 18,000 employees filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in January, the second time in less than 3 years.
Company officials say if the motion is granted, Hostess would begin to cease operations as soon as November 20.
