BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – One person was injured in a garage fire Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to a home at 216 Magnolia around 9:30 Friday on a report of a structure fire.

Crews discovered a two car garage engulfed in flames. The garage was not connected to the house and firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.

However, two houses did sustain heat damage that included melted siding and damage to windows.

One person suffered burns while trying to put the fire out. He did not want to be taken to the hospital.

The fire department said the garage is a total loss. Damage is estimated at $20,000. Damage to the adjacent houses is estimated at $15,000 to $20,000.

Fire investigators said the fire was caused by hot coals from a grill that were placed in a trash can.
