SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- The Illinois House Monday voted in favor of hearings on the operations of the IHSA.

The hearings were called for by Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, an Aurora Democrat. She denied she wants IHSA activities moved under the state board of Education.

She did say she wants the IHSA to answer questions about its operations --a proposal opposed by local Republicans.

"And if they're doing a great job, well, thank God everybody," said Chapa LaVia. "Then everybody knows and all their questions are settled. If they're not, there's an issue, which is suspicious. Why would be afraid of a House resolution and hearing?"

"IHSA has done a very credible job," said Rep Dave Leitch, a republican from Peoria. "I don't believe they should be subjected to an interrogation by people who have personality issues.."

Despite that opposition from Representatives Leitch and Unes, LaVia's proposal was approved 55-51.
