SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- With a 78 to 28 vote, the House overrode Governor Pat Quinn's attempt to alter an existing bill and place a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Legislators say Quinn tried to misuse his amendatory veto power to re-write the original bill.
Last week, the Illinois Senate also overrode the governor's veto, meaning the underlying or original legislation affecting mail-order ammunition will go into effect.
