SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois House members voted unanimously Friday to pass a bill that would return Wildlife Prairie State Park to private hands.

House Bill 1292 would transfer the ownership of the park from the state to the Friends of Wildlife Prairie Park.

State Representative Mike Unes, chief co-sponsor of the bill, called the passage a "win-win" for park patrons and taxpayers.

The park has been hard hit in recent years due to budget cuts to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

In December, Representative Unes said the park had not received any payments from the state in two years.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
