PEORIA, Ill. -- 2012 proved to be a rebound year for the Peoria housing market.

The Peoria Area Association of Realtors released a report that shows home sales neared 5000 in the Peoria area last year, up 16.8 percent from 2011. The average price of a home also jumped to just over $137,000. That's up almost 7 percent from 2011.

PAAR President John Purple says the increased number of sales has helped bring the Peoria area more of a balanced market, which is a "win-win" for both buyers and sellers.
