PEORIA, Ill. -- More than 400 veterans and active duty soldiers from all over the state hit the greens on Monday for their fellow service men and women.

They gathered for the 5th annual Tee It Up for Troops at the Mount Hawley Club in Peoria.

Organizers started the event five years ago, when a U.S. soldier wanted his family to help those who risk their lives while overseas and the families left back here at home.

Monday’s event will benefit several different national and local military groups, including Hope for the Warriors and the Bob Michel VA Clinic.
