PEORIA, Ill. – State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth is sponsoring a piece of legislation to rename a portion of Interstate 74 to “Ray LaHood Highway.”

“Renaming this part of Interstate 74 is a small way our community and state can show its appreciation for Ray LaHood’s lifetime of service,” Gordon-Booth said. “I would personally like to thank Secretary LaHood for the wonderful example he set for me and other elected officials.”

House Joint Resolution 35 renames I-74 between the Murray Baker Bridge and the Sterling Avenue exit.

It will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 2.

LaHood was the U.S. Secretary of Transportation during President Obama’s first term, and the 18th District’s representative in the U.S. House of Representatives prior to that.

While in the House, LaHood helped secure funding to improve I-74.
