ICC set to increase tuition

March 27, 2013 Updated Oct 26, 2013 at 1:30 AM CDT

EAST PEORIA , Ill. -- It will soon cost more for students to attend Illinois Central College.

The ICC Board of Trustees approved a tuition hike for the 2013 - 2014 school year on Wednesday.

The 8% increase will raise the tuition rate from $106.50 cents a credit hour to $115.

ICC has raised tuition every year since 2004.

Officials said the increase is due to delayed state payments.

ICC President Dr. John Erwin said Illinois is currently $5.25 million dollars behind for the current fiscal year.

"We're increasing our support for our educational foundation. We've increased our support for grant solicitation. We're applying for more grants and looking for additional revenue streams.," said ICC President Dr. John Erwin.

Dr. Erwin said ICC's tuition rate, despite the increase, will still be below the state average for state colleges.
