IDES pushes for extension of unemployment benefits

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says veterans and older workers are the hardest hit by a lack of long-term unemployment benefits.

Numbers released Monday show when the extended federal benefits expired in January, 74,000 Illinois residents immediately lost their temporary help. One month later, 86-percent were still without work.

The U.S. Senate passed a proposal to extend federal unemployment benefits for five months. However the U.S. House has not agreed to bring it up for a vote.
