PEORIA CO., IL. -- City parking bans are being activated throughout Central Illinois to clear roads for local and state plows.

Illinois Department of Transportation will dispatch more than 100 plows tonight in Peoria County alone.

Officials ask that motorists give the trucks plenty of room to work.

They also urge residents to evaluate the necessity of their drive before heading out.

"Anytime there is going to be a snow event, if you don't have to be out there - don't. Certainly that frees the roads for our crews to do what they need to do. If you are going to be out and about just use those safety measures we mentioned. Slow Down. Really give extra room. Increase your distance for following and for braking, as well," Brian Williamsen, IDOT.
