SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday a 63 percent decline in motor vehicle crash fatalities over Thanksgiving weekend.
IDOT says that data from their crash information unit reported three fatalities and two crashes during the four day weekend, compared to eight fatalities and seven crashes during the same time last year.
The data covers the period from 6 p.m. November 21 to midnight November 25.
IDOT recently launched its "Drive to Survive" campaign and is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement in November and December to increase safety awareness and reduce deaths caused by motor vehicle crashes.
