IHSA State Chess Tournament to return to Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Chess Tournament will be returning to Peoria in February.

Local teams registered to participate include Morton, Peoria and Princeville.

In total, there are 128 high school chess teams registered to participate from around the state.

The tournament, which will take place in the Peoria Civic Center Ballroom, will begin at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Februrary 10, and at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 11.

The awards ceremony, with trophies and medallions presented to the first, second and third place teams, will take place at 5 p.m. February 11.

This year's tournament will be the 12th consecutive year it has been in Peoria.
