BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University announced a $6.5 million addition to the Shirk Center for Athletics and Recreation.

The two-story addition will include expanded fitness facilities, locker rooms and multipurpose recreation rooms.

IWU President Richard F. Wilson said the number of student athletes and student interest in personal fitness has increased since the Shirk Center’s construction in 1994.

Funding for the new addition was provided by the Shirk family and the Shirk Family Foundation.

“We are enormously grateful to the Shirk family for the sustained commitment they have made to athletics and recreation at the University over the last 20 years,” said athletic director Dennie Bridges.

The Shirk Center was the site of six NCAA Division III championships.
